چکیده

The MICs of 24 antimicrobials for 26 Leptospira spp. serovars were determined using a broth microdilution technique. The MICs at which 90% of isolates tested were inhibited (MIC(90)s) of cefepime, imipenem-cilastatin, erythromycin, clarithromycin, and telithromycin were all /=3.13 microg/ml. Many antimicrobials have excellent in vitro activity against Leptospira.

Effects of inoculum size and incubation time on broth microdilution susceptibility testing of lactic acid bacteria.

Inoculum size and incubation time were varied during broth microdilution testing of the susceptibilities of 35 strains of lactic acid bacteria to six antibiotics. An increase in either parameter resulted in elevated MICs for all species. An inoculum of 3 x 10(5) CFU/ml is recommended to assess the antibiotic susceptibilities of these bacteria by using broth microdilution.

Clinical isolates of Streptococcus pneumoniae with different susceptibilities to ceftriaxone and cefotaxime.

Ceftriaxone and cefotaxime are extended-spectrum cephalosporins previously demonstrated to possess very similar in vitro activities against Streptococcus pneumoniae. Anecdotal reports of isolates with divergent in vitro susceptibilities to ceftriaxone and cefotaxime have been published. To determine the prevalence of pneumococcal isolates with divergent ceftriaxone and cefotaxime susceptibiliti...

Comparative evaluation of the E test, agar dilution, and broth microdilution for testing susceptibilities of Helicobacter pylori strains to 20 antimicrobial agents.

The Epsilometer test (E test; AB Biodisk, Solna, Sweden), a new quantitative technique for the determination of antimicrobial susceptibility, was compared to reference methods (agar dilution and broth microdilution) for the antimicrobial susceptibility testing of Helicobacter pylori. Seventy-one H. pylori strains isolated from patients with duodenal ulcers were tested against 20 antimicrobial a...

In vitro susceptibilities of seven Leptospira species to traditional and newer antibiotics.

Human leptospirosis is generally treated with penicillin or doxycycline. We studied the susceptibilities of 11 serovars (seven species) of Leptospira to 14 antibiotics. With the exception of chloramphenicol, all tested agents were at least as potent as penicillin and doxycycline, with the macrolide and ketolide drugs producing the lowest MICs (and minimal bactericidal concentrations).

Antimicrobial susceptibilities of geographically diverse clinical human isolates of Leptospira.

Although antimicrobial therapy of leptospirosis has been studied in a few randomized controlled clinical studies, those studies were limited to specific regions of the world and few have characterized infecting strains. A broth microdilution technique for the assessment of antibiotic susceptibility has been developed at Brooke Army Medical Center. In the present study, we assessed the susceptib...
